The 126720VTNR is the left-handed GMT-Master II, the destro configuration with crown at 9 o’clock, date window at 9 o’clock, and a green-and-black Cerachrom bezel unique to this reference. Rolex launched it at Watches & Wonders 2022 with no prior rumour and no obvious precedent in recent production. It is the first left-handed sports watch in the modern catalogue.

The reference code parses as French. VT is verte, NR is noir. Enthusiasts nicknamed it the “Sprite” for the bezel colour and the “Destro” for the left-handed configuration, and both names are in common use.

Where it sits in the line

The 126720VTNR sits at two intersections. It is the fourth Cerachrom bezel colour on a GMT-Master II, following the blue-and-black 116710BLNR Batman (2013), the red-and-blue 116719BLRO and 126710BLRO Pepsi (2014 / 2018), and the black-only 116710LN (2007-2019). Its arrival gave the steel line three bezel colours at once for the first time, a point Worn & Wound made on launch day.

It is also the first Rolex sports watch in regular production with a left-side crown. Bloomberg read it as a catalogue watch rather than a boutique or limited-edition curiosity, which separates it from the one-off destro pieces Rolex has shown previously.

Production outline

Rolex introduced the reference at Watches & Wonders 2022 on 30 March 2022, with both Oyster (m126720vtnr-0001) and Jubilee (m126720vtnr-0002) bracelet options available from day one. It remains in the current Rolex catalogue, and no variant beyond the bracelet split has been catalogued since.

Movement notes

Caliber 3285 powers the reference, the same movement used across the modern GMT-Master II platform. It carries the Chronergy escapement, blue Parachrom hairspring, and Paraflex shock absorbers, runs a 70-hour power reserve, and holds Superlative Chronometer certification at -2/+2 seconds per day. The local hour hand is independently adjustable and the date is quickset.

The movement architecture does not change for the left-handed configuration. Rolex reconfigures the case, the dial, and the date-wheel printing instead of mirroring the movement internally. The date wheel numerals are oriented for the 9 o’clock window, so the printing differs from the wheels used in right-handed 3285 applications.

No dial variants are documented across the production run. The -0001 and -0002 differ only in bracelet.

Case, bezel, crystal, and crown notes

The case is the reference’s defining feature. It is 40mm Oystersteel with the crown at 9 o’clock instead of 3, crown guards on the left flank, and an uninterrupted right-hand side. Proportions otherwise follow the modern GMT-Master II platform at 40mm across, approximately 12mm thick, and 48mm lug-to-lug. Only the architecture is mirrored; the dimensions are standard.

The dial is mirrored with it. The date window and its Cyclops magnifier sit at 9 o’clock. The two are positionally locked together, so flipping one required flipping the other.

The bezel is two-colour green-and-black Cerachrom with platinum-PVD-filled numerals, a combination exclusive to the 126720VTNR. No other Rolex production reference carries a green-and-black insert. The numeral treatment is the same platinum PVD used across the modern Cerachrom GMT bezels, so the insert is a colour change and not a process change.

The crystal is sapphire, with the Cyclops over the 9 o’clock date window. The crown is a standard Triplock screw-down set on the left inside its guards, and water resistance is 100m.

Bracelets, end links, clasps, and packaging notes

Both Oyster and Jubilee configurations launched together at the same retail. The Oyster carries the three-link profile with Oysterlock and Easylink, and the Jubilee the five-link with the same clasp furniture.

Packaging is the standard Rolex presentation box and guarantee card in current-production format.

Special branches

Bracelet variants (-0001 and -0002)

The three-link Oyster -0001 and the five-link Jubilee -0002 are the reference’s only catalogued branches, and the watches are otherwise identical. Both launched at the same price, and availability runs roughly even between them, with dealer and regional variation. Putting a Jubilee on a modern Professional reference follows the precedent set by the 2018 Pepsi 126710BLRO.

Nickname branches: “Sprite” and “Destro”

“Sprite” refers to the green-and-black bezel colour. The name came out of the enthusiast press reading the green as lime-like, and it has become the dominant one in the secondary market. It joins Pepsi in the soft-drink naming habit collectors have applied to Rolex bezels since the 1970s.

“Destro” refers to the left-handed configuration. Destro is Italian for “right-handed,” and the name describes the wearer rather than the watch. A left-crown case suits someone who wears the watch on the right wrist. Both names travel together in the enthusiast press.

Reception split

The watch launched to divided enthusiast reception. Hodinkee and Bloomberg covered it as a welcome surprise. Monochrome ran a launch piece and then an opinion piece under the “why I don’t like the destro” framing, arguing it amounts to “basically the same watch turned 180 degrees”. That split, more than any technical detail, is what collectors argue about.

Historical market and auction record

No major auction house has offered the reference, and the watch is too new for the kind of catalogue presence the 126710BLRO has built. Volume moves through dealers and certified pre-owned channels instead, and median secondary-market pricing has held above retail since the 2022 launch.

Launch retail was CHF 10,500 on either bracelet according to SJX and Gear Patrol. Monochrome quoted EUR 10,400 for the Oyster and EUR 10,600 for the Jubilee, the only published figure that splits the two.
