Rolesor has been part of the automatic Daytona since the Zenith era, running 16523 to [[Reference:116523|116523]] to 116503 across three movement generations without ever changing what the watch is: a steel case and bracelet with 18k yellow gold bezel, crown, pushers and centre links. The 116503 is the last of the three, and the last Daytona to wear an engraved gold bezel on a steel case.

Its position against the 2016 steel reference is the useful comparison. Both arrived that year on the same cal 4130, both kept the 40mm Oyster case, and both use the Oysterlock clasp with Easylink. The 116500LN took a black monobloc Cerachrom bezel; the 116503 kept the engraved gold one that Rolesor Daytonas had always used. Ceramic never came to the Rolesor in this generation.

The successor is the 126503, announced 27 March 2023 with cal 4131. That movement runs 47 jewels, keeps the 4 Hz beat and roughly 72-hour reserve, and adds the patented Chronergy escapement. The 2023 launch replaced every Daytona in the range at once, which is why the 116503 has no tapering-off period.

Rolex's own catalogue brackets both ends of the run. Model pages for the 116523 run from 2014 through February 2016; no 116503 page exists before then, and the first captures land in late May 2016 with ten dial codes live simultaneously. The URL pattern was already in use two years earlier, so this is a catalogue change rather than a site redesign. The 116503 was not part of the Baselworld 2016 announcement, which named only the 116500LN.

Attrition through the run is documented. Ten dial codes were live at launch in 2016. By April 2021 only four remained, and those same four were still listed in February 2023. Rolex's Daytona catalogue lists the entire 1165xx generation on 13 February 2023 and none of it by 3 June 2023, with the cal 4131 references in their place. Brice Goulard's January 2023 Rolex price-list analysis for Monochrome still discusses the 116503 as a current catalogue model, which puts the changeover squarely at the March 2023 announcement.

Sotheby's lot cataloguing has given the discontinuation as 2018, which Rolex's own catalogue contradicts. Case serials use the random eight-character alphanumeric format throughout, so guarantee cards do the dating; documented examples include watches purchased new in October 2018, July 2019 and November 2019.
